Marriage

Sacrament of Marriage
Holy Matrimony is the bond between a man and a woman, forged by the Holy Spirit, that unites them in a communion of love. One of the two sacraments of vocation, holy matrimony is a sacred state of life in which a man and a woman live out God’s vision for them. While the world sees marriage as a contract that can be dissolved at any time, holy matrimony is a covenant relationship between husband and wife: it binds the couple together by a sacred promise in which each pledges his or her faithfulness to the other. In the sacrament of marriage, the husband makes a gift of himself to his wife and she makes a gift of herself to him. Open to life and the raising of children, exclusive to each other in marital fidelity, and bonded together in all seasons of life, holy matrimony is the most fundamental society.
