Sacrament of the Sick

Sacrament of the Sick

Anointing of the Sick offers spiritual healing to the ill and infirm. The body and the soul are intimately connected, and every physical ailment also has a spiritual dimension to it. The suffering share in a special way in Christ’s own Passion, as He made our frailty His own on Calvary Hill. Christ Himself performed miracles of healing during His ministry as powerful signs of His mission of reconciliation and restoration of the human person to full dignity. The Church continues this in the Lord’s name with the sacrament of the sick.

When death is imminent, but not only at the point of death; when any serious illness or injury is suffered, or major surgery is anticipated, the anointing of the sick is appropriate. It provides spiritual strength, courage, hope, and comfort to the recipient.

If you or a loved-one is seriously ill, wounded, or about to undergo surgery, you should contact Father Ren at 508-650.3545, ext. 14; or frren@goodshepherdwayland.org to schedule a time to receive the anointing. (Please note: Father Ren is the only priest at Good Shepherd, so please allow ample time for him to come. If possible, notice of twenty-four hours would be appreciated and will ensure that the sacrament will be given in time.)
